Verne provides an integrated task management system that supports the assignment of tasks and activities to teams and team members. The Work Queue, an interactive task list, provides each user with a view of outstanding tasks, allowing them to select, update and complete tasks online.

Each registry business service within Verne is subject to a workflow process. The workflow controls how the business service is initiated, the subsequent ‘flow’ involved in completing it, and the common services that are invoked as part of it. The rules defined within Verne Workflow allow control over the business process that is followed, on an individual basis, for each business service made available.

A business service can be thought of as an online form or application that a user fills in and submits.

In more abstract terms, the business service is how a user interacts with the register and can be invoked either through a user interface (e.g. browser) or as a web service. We use the terms ‘form’ or ‘application’ to provide a more appropriate context.

All business services within Verne follow a standard process that handles the entry, validation, charging of fees and review of the data entered or contained within the service. Within a Verne workflow, several configurable attributes control the flow of a business service and the way the system processes it.

At a high level, Verne applies the following process to a business service:
