Within some jurisdictions, there are legal requirements for the registry to suppress data they hold on entities or people. In Verne terms "suppressing data" or "suppressing entity" are used when an entity or its data is hidden from external users. Currently, there are two features:

  • the entity flag “Suppress from public search” makes an entity unsearchable by all external users, while still being available to internal users through the search
  • entity role has a checkbox “Suppress address” that makes address information visible to internal users only.

Suppress entity from public search

This flag can be set via the Maintain Entity Flags business service. Its purpose is to make an entity temporarily unavailable to all external users while the registry manager is conducting an investigation. When a decision regarding the entity validity is made, the entity can be either un-suppressed and continue to exist normally or it can be de-registered. Entity suppression keeps all dependencies alive as though the entity still exists, e.g. entity name is protected and compliance is kept active.

Scenarios requiring temporary suppression include where the:

  • Verne register went live and legacy entities were migrated, some of them are not confirmed to be valid/live entities but they were migrated just in case.
  • Verne register went live and “seeded entities” have been created to account for any legacy entities that have been missed in the migration process.
  • entity is under investigation.

If an entity is suppressed from public search:

  • The entity will not be returned in search results performed by an external user.
  • The entity will be visible to internal users via search.
  • If an external user has authority over the entity, they will be unable to select it from their My Portfolio list.
  • If an external user is watching the entity they will be unable to select it from their Watched Items list.

Suppress entity role address

Registry staff can suppress the address of individuals who play a role for an entity. Suppressed addresses are not shown to external users when viewing the individual details in:

  • Search results
  • View entity details
  • Certificates or extracts
  • Reports
  • Filings

The following details must be provided when suppression of address is requested:

  • Suppress address reason
  • Supporting documents
