Test Recorder

Verne provides the capability to record test scenarios from configured screens.

1. At this stage Test Recorder can only be used on the Chrome browser (not IE, Firefox or Safari) 2. Caution should be exercised when developing scenarios from configured screens using the test recorder. Generated steps should always be compared against the requirements(source of truth) to ensure that the elements have the right label/text/value 3. Magellan needs to be connected to the stratus server to access the test recorder 4. Easy way to get started with learning the step definitions available in the automation framework

Using the test recorder

Pre-requisite: To access the test recorder you must have stratus server started and Magellan connected to the stratus server.

With stratus server started and Magellan connected to the server user can open the test recorder using 2 different menues:

  • From the main page users can click UI Recorder
  • From System Administration > UI Recorder

To start recording press button "Start recording"

Once recording is in progress you should see the changes as per the screenshots below

Once connected execute actions on the screen and step definitions should be generated automatically.

For interactable elements such as text boxes, radio buttons, drop downs you need to click outside the element once action has been performed for the interaction to be recorded as a step definition.

CONTROL + CLICK To add validations

As part of writing test scenarios a requirement would be to validate read-only text or alert messages (info/error/warning) appearing on the screen.

To add validations from the screen and capture additional validations users must Control+Click on the elements to add them to the recorder screen.

ALT+ CLICK To capture variables

Some scenarios requires capture variables for later comparison, for this purpose clicking Alt+Click will capture variables from the screen.
