What is a Form Fragment Tree?

It’s a hierarchy of ancestor view nodes grouped into their form and form fragments/components (also known as the xml configuration call stack) for a selected UI element. It allows you to navigate to the source configuration of the selected view node and its ancestors quickly.

You can generate the form fragment tree in a couple ways:

Using JSniper

To view the form fragment tree of a UI element:

  1. Enable JSniper
  2. Right-click on a UI element and select Open in Magellan from the JSniper popup.
  3. Click on the Form Fragment Tree button on the right button bar as shown in the image below.

The following image shows the source configuration in the main editor workspace and the form fragment tree for the FirstName attribute view node:

What’s in Form Fragment Tree

The tree contains the following items:

  • The name of the business service configuration file at the top of the tree (A).
  • Ancestor view nodes under their form (B).
  • Ancestor view nodes under their nested form fragments/components (C)
  • The view node of the selected UI element at the bottom of the tree (D).

The following image illustrates that the FirstName attribute is located in the individualName component which is used by the individualNameCurrentRepeater repeater located in the SingleHistoricRepeater component which is included in the Section component and this component is included in the Wizard component which is used by the professionalRegister form and this form is used by the professionalRegister business service.

The following options are available on the Form Fragment Tree panel:

  • Service form checkbox – Check to show the service form for this business service (E)
  • Resolution checkbox – Check to show resolved form variabled used in the form fragment/component (F)
  • + or - buttons – Expand or Collapse the tree (G).
  • Refresh button – Clear the tree and remove resolved form variables from the main editor.

Form Variable Resolution

If you checked the Resolution checkbox on the Form Fragment Tree panel it’ll show resolved form variables used the form fragment/component of the selected view node in the form fragment tree as shown in the image below.

This is extremely useful when you’re working on a common form fragment (ie. generalDetails) and this gets included in multiple forms and form fragments and you want to know what variable values and where they were passed in to your component so you can easily locate and update them.

The following image shows the EntityName attribute view node is located in the generalDetails form fragment which is used by the fspEntity form fragment and this passed in the value FSP_ENTITY for the role variable.

The following image shows all the resolved variables in the generalDetails form fragment and the exact location where they were passed in. For example, it shows the value FSP_ENTITY for the role variable was passed by the fspEntity form fragment. Click on the Expand icon to the right of the variable value shows the exact source location of where it was passed in and do Ctrl + click on it takes you to that location.

Navigation

  • Click on a view node in the form fragment tree to navigate to its source configuration.
  • Click + click on the variable in the source configuration to navigate to the source location where the variable is defined.
